Marco Fusinato is an artist, musician and sound curator who is primarily interested in the aspirations, forms and failures of radical politics and the aesthetic and potential of disruption.
He has been exhibiting in galleries, performing and recording for over twenty years, and, among other projects, he co-curated the major international exhibition 21:100:100 for the 2008 Melbourne International Arts Festival, featuring a hundred sound works, by a hundred artists, composed in the 21st Century.
Marco’s sound performances involve improvised guitar manipulations to produce an epic, shifting mass of noise, the artist recently referring to one event as a ‘guitar signal annihilator noise tsunami’.
Work by Marco is currently being shown as part of Soundings: A Contemporary Score, the first ever sound exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, involving 16 international artists. He recently returned from an east coast USA tour opening for Chelsea Light Moving, the new band of long-term collaborator Thurston Moore, which was formed following the demise of legendary post-punk band Sonic Youth.
For Melbourne Now we are presenting a new, large-scale sculptural, sonic and light-based work that continues Marco’s investigations into affect – the production of intense sensations within the audience member encountering his work or performance – and failure. The work will visually and aurally link to his performances, including a series entitled Spectral Arrows, about which Marco has commented: “these slabs of noise are like monumental sculpture, that occupy and shoot around the space, that eventually decay and disappear”. Prepare to be engulfed.
