Luggage brand July has created the world’s lightest double-wheel, hard-shell suitcase for air travel. Founded by Richard Li and Athan Didaskalou, the Collingwood-based company creates durable and sustainable luggage at an affordable price point.

The Carry On Light, 2021, is a lightweight version of July’s signature carry-on luggage range. The suitcase is designed to help travellers reduce their luggage weight, particularly on short domestic plane trips, without compromising on quality, utility, aesthetics or affordability. After reviewing other suitcases on the market, July re-engineered key components their competitors often sacrificed for the sake of cost or weight, then refined them through meticulous testing.

The smart design of the Carry On Light was led by July’s Head of Product and Innovation division Alan Kirszner and features an aerospace-grade polycarbonate shell, moulded in July’s trademark eggshell curved shape, which prevents breakage through bounce back; custom-designed SilentMove Series 2 double wheels, which are light but strong, smooth and stable; and a soft-touch telescopic twin-bar handle with three adjustable heights and made from ultra-light magnesium with an ergonomic rubber grip. When empty, the suitcase weighs 1.8 kilograms and has a 38-litre capacity. The shell of the Carry On Light is 100 per cent recyclable and ethically manufactured.

Since launching in 2019, July has become the largest direct-to-market luggage brand in Australia.
