1885

In May Monet exhibits ten paintings at the fashionable gallery of Durand-Ruel’s rival, Georges Petit. With a slump in the art market, Monet arranges for fellow Impressionists to also show at Petit’s Gallery during these hard times. Since 1870, Monet and Pissarro had looked closely at Turner's paintings on their frequent visits to London. This influence is strongest in Monet's coastal scenes.
