Michel Monet is killed in a car accident. His will makes over Monet’s paintings and possessions to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, France, who appoint a custodian, the architect Jacques Carlu. Lacking funds to do more than replace the roof of Le Pressoir, Jacques Carlu transfers Monet’s paintings to the Musée Marmottan, Paris.
