1870

The Franco-Prussian war breaks out. Monet avoids conscription by taking his young family to London in the autumn, where he meets the dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. While in London, two of his seascapes of Trouville are shown. Monet receives his first painting by Cézanne as part payment for three works acquired by the dealer Pierre Martin.
