“The development of full artificial intelligence (AI) could spell the end of the human race,” warns Professor Stephen Hawking. Sounding more like the latest science-fiction movie plot than our own near future, do we really have anything to worry about? The reality is that AI is becomingly increasingly a part of our technology use and will grow to supplant a variety of human tasks and perhaps humans altogether.

Explore the implications of human extinction and the possibilities of AI with guest speakers and a video provocation by Triennial artist Tabor Robak who examines the relationship between humanity, nature and technology often blurring the lines of the real and artificial.

This program was part of Triennial Conversations, which took place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December to mark the opening of NGV Triennial 2020.
