Colonial sofa conservation

Colony: Australia 1770–1861 is the most comprehensive survey of Australian colonial art to date. The exhibition explores the rich diversity of art, craft and design produced between 1770, when James Cook reached the east coast of Australia, and 1861, when the NGV was founded. As part of the exhibition, our Conservation team reupholstered this red cedar sofa from the 1840s.

Presented concurrently with Colony: Frontier Wars, Colony: Australia 1770–1861 offered a parallel experience of the colonisation of Australia.
