Visual artist Lily Mae Martin steps through her approach to sketching inside NGV’s 19th Century European Paintings Gallery. She takes inspiration from the life-size marble sculpture Musidora, 1878 by Marshall Wood. This striking centrepiece of the gallery was a mythological ancient Greek goddess who inspired all forms of literature and the arts.
Martin encourages focusing on simple drawing exercises, such as observational drawing and mark making, demonstrating how working on a drawing in stages builds consistency in your work.
