Potts County is also the name of the setting for Jim Thompson’s crime novel, Pop. 1280, involving a wayward sheriff playing by his own rules. Feldman used literature as escapism throughout the COVID-19 restrictions of 2020, and took inspiration from Thompson’s imagination.
