NEW PROGRAM SERIES LAUNCH – Creative Educators at the NGV

Block printing with handmadelife

We are excited about craft and design at the NGV!

Last week we visited Ramona Barry and Beck Jobson from handmadelife. They are the dynamic duo behind the innovative studio space offering a range of craft and design inspired workshops.

During the school holidays, a group of young people participating in the NGV’S Creative Encounters program were lucky enough to spend time printing and making fashion accessories with Ramona and Beck.

We know teachers are always looking for ideas, inspiration and engaging contemporary content for secondary art programs. Ramona and Beck will be back again at the NGV in July, but this time for teachers. Creative Educators is an opportunity for teachers to nurture the artist within, making and responding to art and design.

Join us in our upcoming program, inspired by the exhibition 200 Years of Australian Fashion. We will start with a guided tour of the exhibition, focusing on significant collection items including the print and pattern design of Sarah Thorn, Kara Baker and P.A.M. Following the exhibition, handmadelife, will speak on their professional practice and take everyone through a printing workshop learning textile techniques, concentrating on generating ideas for the classroom.

The program will be documented in an online resource that you can use back in the classroom with your students.

Come along, share ideas and network with other art educators in this first Creative Encounters professional learning for 2016.

You can keep up to date with handmadelife’s practice on their blog here.
