With around 200 artworks on display, Yayoi Kusama is a large exhibition that covers most of the ground floor of NGV International.
The exhibition presents a series of immersive rooms which use mirrors, patterns and lighting effects. These spaces may be disorientating and difficult to navigate.
For access information about the exhibition including a sensory map, see Yayoi Kusama Access Yayoi Kusama exhibition webpage.
The Great Hall is a very large room with carpet and a stained-glass ceiling. Suspended from the ceiling are very large yellow and black inflatable balls.
There are low light levels in the Great Hall, with the DJ stage lit up. Haze effects and coloured lights are used and the music levels are fairly loud. No strobing is used.
The Great Hall is busy and noisy. If you need a lower-sensory area, the space behind the Gallery Kitchen cafe, near the lift offers a quieter experience during the event.
Art Party is a supervised event strictly for high school students. If a parent or guardian needs to attend, we’ll ask them to kindly wait at the Parent/Guardian lounge. (No entry ticket required).
We have trained security and first aid providers on site and all our staff, contractors, and performers are inducted with NGV Child Safe Standards. The NGV is committed to the safety and well-being of all young people and has zero tolerance to any form of child abuse and racial discrimination.
