This Thursday 22 October brings with it another NGV Women’s Association Garden Day, giving the general public a rare opportunity to view some of the finest private gardens in the Domain Rd precinct of South Yarra.
Eight beautiful gardens will be open from 10am to 4pm, with all proceeds supporting NGV art acquisitions. Each garden is entirely different, and yet full of delight.
Styles encompass everything from a forest of Tropical palms that shelter an undulating carpet of superb foliage and colour contrast; to soothing Mediterranean with smooth lines of hedges distinguishing 3 levels of spacious garden rooms. Two of the gardens also feature the most remarkable and unusual plant combinations combining arid and more luxuriant species to provide stunning form and an exciting spectacle.
All gardens are within walking distance of Tram 8 stop 24 at Domain Rd/Park St or metered parking along Birdwood Avenue. There are uneven surfaces, narrow paths and steps in some gardens that are unsuitable for prams and wheelchairs.
The Garden Day stall will be selling a superb selection of delicious preserves, baked goods, and fresh produce direct from the grower. Raffle tickets will also be on sale for some superb prizes.
