Ground Level

Meet other likeminded art enthusiasts, enjoy light refreshments, and discuss select works in Italian, from Tiepolo and Titian to Amedeo Modigliani and the Milan Memphis.

Immerse yourself in the NGV’s Italian Collection and practice your language skills in this special conversation series.

Whether you’re a beginner, a confident speaker, or a native Italian speaker, all are invited to join in on the chiacchierata.

Session One: The Banquet of Cleopatra

In 1744, Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo captured history’s most lavish dinner party in The Banquet of Cleopatra.

Beginning with an introduction over wine and cheese in the Members Lounge, we will then head into the Gallery to see the painting up close for an intimate viewing experience, and an opportunity to discuss the story that inspired its creation.

Note, this after-hours session will be presented in Italian. All language levels are welcome.

This program is part of NGV Italia supported by the Italian Australian Foundation.
