Presented by Gail Hastings as part of Melbourne Art Book Fair
Space Practising Tools is a recently published book in which the artist Gail Hastings observes the various interactions of space through the use of five especially made tools. Since habit, thankfully, allows us to navigate space without having to think through every moment of that interaction, we subsequently see space immediately as a given if, that is, we see space at all. Through the use of five plywood tools, however, a number of ‘mediations’ within the immediacy of space are observed with the help of watercolours, photographs, diagrams and thoughtful notations that articulate each space practising tool.
