Join the multi-award-winning illustrator and writer Freya Blackwood for a fun-filled Book Week online event! Dive into the magic behind Freya’s captivating illustrations and find out what sparks her creativity. Discover how she brings her characters to life and tells enchanting stories using only pictures. Students can take part in engaging drawing activities that will unleash their own imagination! Don’t miss the chance to ask Freya your questions during the Q&A session at the end.

Students will:

  • Learn about the ways writers and illustrators tell stories .
  • Engage in guided drawing activities.
  • Experiment with using pictures to tell a story.

About the Author

Freya Blackwood is a multi-award-winning illustrator and writer. Her picture books are beloved for her warm and perceptive drawings. Since publishing her first picture book in 2003, Freya has worked with writers such as Libby Gleeson, Margaret Wild, Jan Ormerod, Nick Bland, Mem Fox and Kirli Saunders.

In 2010, Freya won the UK’s most prestigious prize for illustrators, the Carnegie Medal for Illustration, for her book Harry and Hopper. In 2015 she did what no other creator has ever done, taking out three CBCA Book of the Year awards in a single year.

Freya lives in Orange, New South Wales, with her daughter, Ivy.
