How are you celebrating International Arts Education Week this year? Bring your students and join us for a free online workshop with artist Tanya Schultz from Pip & Pop to unleash creativity and imagination! Tanya will share her unique sources of inspiration and some of her favourite art making techniques, before students become the artists and transform silhouettes of simple fruits or vegetables into a cast of vibrant, anthropomorphic characters.

This program will also include suggestions for further art-making activities that teachers can implement to expand upon the ideas and techniques explored during this session.

Students will:

  • Use imagination and creativity to create original artwork with guidance from a practicing visual artist
  • Experiment with drawing and paper craft techniques to create a 2D free standing character inspired by a fruit or vegetable
  • Consider the way certain colours, shapes and/or patterns can evoke specific moods or traits through character design

Students participating in this program will need:

  • A4 white paper no thinner than cartridge paper
  • Coloured pencils and/or markers
  • A black marker or fineliner
  • Scissors
  • Dot stickers for eyes (optional)

About Tanya from Pip & Pop

Australian artist Tanya Schultz works under the name Pip & Pop to create immersive and colour saturated artworks from an eclectic range of materials including sugar, candy, artificial flora, crystals, modelling clay and everyday craft materials. Her practice embodies both independent and collaborative processes across varying disciplines including installation, digital collage, sculpture, wall-works and design.

Often ephemeral, her meticulously constructed works embrace notions of abundance, utopian dreams and fleeting pleasure. The artist draws parallels between the illusory nature of these imagined worlds and the promise and allure of the commercial world, where we are enticed to partake in happy consumption. Pip & Pop works are excessive and abundant, filled with thousands of tiny hand-crafted objects. With playful working methods, Pip & Pop construct and transform everyday materials into optimistic parallel worlds.

Tanya’s work has been exhibited throughout the world: in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, UK, USA, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. Pip & Pop have collaborated with many renowned companies including Hermès, Mecca Cosmetica, Adobe, Santa Monica Pier, and Romance Was Born.

This live program will be delivered via WebEx.
