Yayoi Kusama is one of the world’s most celebrated artists.
Before experiencing the exhibition, learn more about the artist’s remarkable life and career. In this lecture, NGV curator Meg Slater will trace the many experiences, cultural contexts and modes of making that have shaped Kusama’s practice over more than eight decades.
From her earliest drawings made on her family’s seed farm in Matsumoto, Japan, to paintings and immersive installations made in recent years, this talk will explore the full breadth of Kusama’s artistic output, and her rise within and beyond the art world in recent decades.
