Join us to celebrate the launch of Issue 59 of Art Journal, NGV’s long-running publication of writings on art and art history.
With a history that goes back almost 80 years, Art Journal is an important avenue for in-depth research and writing on the NGV Collection with essays by curators, conservators and world-leading scholars in art and art history.
For this latest issue, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the history of the journal – first published in 1945 – and consider the broader role of long-form art writing on collections, how this has changed over the last eight decades, and the future of art publishing.
Revisit previous issues of Art Journal – including a unique opportunity to view some of the earliest examples from the NGV’s archive – and learn about the topics covered in the latest issue, which explores the theme ‘Nature and the Machine’, from Frank Lloyd’s Wright’s dining chairs to Iris Van Herpen’s avant-garde couture.
