Learn about the rich array of historically significant examples of costume and fashion from Japanese history in the NGV Collection in an illustrated introduction to Kimono with NGV Senior Curator Wayne Crothers.

Through a selection of costume, paintings, posters, wood block prints, magazines and decorative arts, the exhibition establishes a visually dynamic creative lineage from early Japanese costume to the most experimental and innovative fashion designers of today.

Spanning from early Noh and Kyogen costume through to contemporary creative fashion innovators like Issey Miyake and John Galliano, explore the diverse themes and popularity of the kimono story.
