In 2017, 80-year-old Japanese car manufacturer Toyota no longer wanted to be known as an automotive company, rather a mobility company. The convergence of ‘mobility-as-a-service’ and the shift away from the car as the dominant form of transport means that a truly integrated multi-modal transportation system may soon become a reality. How does these technological change affect vehicle design and how does these new modes and systems of transport alter the city?
