Celebrate Book Week 2025 with bestselling author Jacqueline Harvey in an exciting online writing workshop inspired by the NGV Collection. This fun and interactive session will guide students through the fundamentals of storytelling—from sparking creative ideas and crafting unique characters to writing captivating opening lines and building engaging plots. Led by one of Australia’s top children’s writers, students will have the chance to unleash their creativity and sharpen their writing skills in this special Book Week event.
Students will:
- Develop ideas for character, setting and plot.
- Experiment with different language features using rich vocabulary, descriptive phrases and literary devices.
- Produce short pieces of writing inspired by artworks.
About Jacqueline Harvey:
Jacqueline Harvey is one of Australia’s most popular authors for children. She has written over 60 books including the bestselling Alice-Miranda, Clementine Rose, Kensy and Max and Willa and Woof series, which have received numerous short-listings and awards and are published internationally. Her picture book, The Sound of the Sea was a CBCA Honour Book in 2006.
She has recently released a variety of picture books including three stories in the Kevin the Sheep series, The Daring Tale of Glora the Great, and That Cat, all illustrated by her former student, animator, and illustrator Kate Isobel Scott. Her latest middle-grade offering, The Girl and the Ghost, has its first release in May 2025, with another book coming later in the year.
