Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070 asks leading landscape designers and architects to develop ideas and concepts for key sites along the Birrarung; from the city precinct, looking upwards towards the source of the river.
In this symposium, speakers will explore how knowledge systems, climate change, policy, emerging technologies, and design might influence or enhance our relationship with the Birrarung over the next five decades. Speakers will present both speculative and real-world solutions for the future management of the river, so that together as a community we can consider what we want for the future of the Birrarung and what it means for a river to be understood as a living entity.
The symposium will be moderated by Senior Curator, Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture, Ewan McEoin and Curator, Contemporary Design and Architecture, Gemma Savio.
This has been scheduled to coincide and celebrate World Rivers Day.
Refreshments will be available from 9.15am and the Symposium will begin at 10am.
This program is co-presented by Bupa and the NGV in association with the exhibition Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070.
