Explore

Spark the imagination, generate new ideas, and share thoughts in these lively online sessions about art for children aged 3 – 5 years and their parents and carers. In each session, children discover works of art from the NGV Collection and watch a demonstration of an art-making activity that can be made at home or kindergarten using everyday materials.

This activity is suitable to join from home, kindergarten or playgroup. Groups are welcome to attend. Participation in the program’s chat function is encouraged. Attendees’ microphones and cameras will be turned off.

Under 5s | Let’s Have a Picnic

Picnics are a chance to catch up with old friends, make new ones and share tasty treats. In this Under 5s session we will talk about picnics, discovering artworks from the NGV Collection from around the world including a Japanese picnic set and a cauliflower tea pot from England. The presentation will be followed by a reading of a favourite children’s picture book.

Children will explore how to care for their friends on these special playdates, extending invitations and taking turns. Accompanying this playful activity will be a picnic-themed making activity to try at home or kindergarten.
