Ground Level

Champion safe and inclusive places for LGBTIQ+ members of your school community through an engaging day of looking and learning at the NGV.

This professional learning program for teachers features Queer, an exhibition which shines a light on the NGV Collection to examine and reveal the queer stories works of art can tell. It explores how art can be a tool for expanding appreciation of queer history and culture and understanding and celebrating diversity.

Add skills and practises to your pedagogical kit with the expertise of LGBTIQ+

inclusion training, then reflect on key ideas and insights from the day in a creative artmaking workshop.

Cost: $120

Learning outcomes:

  • Define key terms such as those encompassed by the term queer (as it has been understood historically, and within contemporary society), the LGBTIQ+ acronym, and other, related terms, including gender, sexuality and identity.
  • Identify the laws relating to LGBTIQ+ students in schools
  • Identify and discuss the key themes, concepts, ideas and works of art in Queer
  • Examine and reflect upon aspects of queer culture and history through art
  • Develop practical strategies to support LGBTIQ+ inclusion in gallery and classroom learning
