The Using the NGV to teach free online teacher professional learning programs introduces opportunities for teaching and learning across the curriculum through works in the NGV Collection.

Join us in May to focus on using the visual arts as a starting point to develop students’ reading and writing skills. The session will include a discussion of selected works in the NGV Collection with related activities for fostering visual literacy and creative writing skills inspired by art that can be adapted to different year levels.

Teachers will also hear about the range of programs and resources for students and teachers of English and literacy offered by the Gallery. This session is suitable for teachers of all levels, including pre-service teachers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Build confidence in using visual art and design from a range of cultural, historical and contemporary contexts to develop student skills in viewing and interpreting skills.
  • Identify ways the visual arts can be used to inspire creative writing.
  • Discover opportunities for future learning at the NGV including Professional Development and student programs offered by NGV Learn.
