Alice Sèthe, the daughter of a Belgian businessman, had to sit very still to have her famous portrait painted.

It is painted in a Neo-Impressionist style; the artist used only dabs of colour to create the painting.

The portrait of Elisabeth Van Rysselberghe was painted by her father, Theo.
