This week at Friday Nights at Jean Paul Gaultier, Remi will take to the stage. Ahead of his performance, we asked him a few questions about art, fashion and music.
Describe your sound in 5 words or less?
Rapped Lyrics With Hot Beats.
If your music was an artwork what would it look like?
Avant Garde Mr Squiggle.
Who’s your favourite artist/artwork?
Salvador Dali, he was far ahead of his time and yet to be matched.
What’s your favourite gig you have played to date?
Last year at Melbourne Music Week we got to play on a balcony at ferdydurke, down into an alleyway full of people. It was so live and so real it was amazing! We love weird gigs.
What inspires/influences your music the most?
I guess, in the most un-cliche way possible, life experiences and other musicians. Any genre it doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s dope it’ll ignite some sort of idea in your mind!
What song do you wish you wrote?
Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mine – J Electronica. It’s probably the most artistic rap song I’ve ever heard. Next level raps over a movie sound track, no drums.
What part of making music excites you the most?
When we get the chance to actually make it hahaha. The busier you get, the less you get to actually make it, so when we do finally sit down in the studio and pick out new beats and rhymes, it’s the most exciting thing ever!
What can a punter expect from your live show?
A two piece hip hop act, made up of a drummer and a vocalist, in its rawest form…. and me tripping over some sort of microphone cord or other stage obstruction.
Tell us about the last song you wrote?
We’re in the developmental stage for our next album, so we’ve been writing a lot of songs just experimenting, so I guess that’s hard to answer. A lot of its everyday topics littered with a little politics over sample based beats.
What is the most unique/memorable item of clothing you own?
My Long sleeve white top, that has ink stains on it from when I gave myself a tattoo.
What was your worst fashion crime?
Pink jumper in year 8. The metro years were bad years.
What would your dream stage outfit be and who would design it?
A fully functional batman suit designed by Morgan Freeman.
