French painter Françoise Gilot is well-known for her decade long relationship with Pablo Picasso from 1943 to 1953. Similarly, French painter, photographer and poet Dora Maar is most often referenced as Picasso’s muse from 1936–1946.
Through a close study of three works by Gilot and Maar recently acquired for the NGV Collection, learn about the extraordinary lives of these women and the way they forged artistic careers for themselves in a male dominated art world.
