Stephen Benwell

Born 1953, Melbourne, Victoria; lives and works in Melbourne. Exhibiting since 1975, Stephen Benwell was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition, Stephen Benwell: Beauty, Anarchy, Desire, at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, in 2013. Group exhibitions have included his selection for Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d’Arte Contemporanea, Faenza, Italy, 1977; Australian Clay, which toured Canada and the United States, 1978; Recent Ceramics: An Exhibition from Australia, which toured Great Britain and Europe, 1980–82; Four Australian Artists, Australian Embassy, Paris, 1985; The Cicely and Colin Rigg Craft Award, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 1994; and A Secret History of Blue and White, Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, Hanoi, and touring, 2006.
