Julia deVille

Born 1982, New Zealand; arrived in Australia 2001; lives and works in Melbourne. While studying gold and silversmithing at NMIT, Melbourne, Julia deVille completed a mentorship with expert taxidermist Rudy Mineur. DeVille’s work is informed by a fascination with memento mori traditions of the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries and Victorian mourning jewellery. She produces her jewellery under the label Disce Mori (Learn to Die), and has more recently expanded her practice to encompass sculpture and installation. Her most recent solo exhibitions include Night’s Plutonian Shore, 2010, and Julia deVille: Sarcophagus, 2012, both Sophie Gannon Gallery, Melbourne.
