While studying gold and silversmithing, a mentorship with expert taxidermist Rudy Mineur proved formative for Julia deVille. Her work customarily includes animals – all of which have died of natural causes – set amongst jewels and stones in a manner reminiscent of Victorian jewellery or memento mori. Her installation for Melbourne Now offers a way to consider mortality in a creative and contemplative manner.
