Jess Johnson

Born 1979, Tauranga, New Zealand; arrived in Australia 2002; lives and works in Melbourne. Jess Johnson’s work has been exhibited in independent galleries in Melbourne, including Death Be Kind, Utopian Slumps and The Narrows, as well as major institutions such as Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art and Casula Powerhouse, and Christchurch Art Gallery. From 2008 to 2011, she was the founder and co-director of Hell Gallery, which ran from her home in Richmond and was the only artist-run space from Australia invited to participate in No Soul for Sale at London’s Tate Modern in 2010. Her work was shown in Primavera, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, 2013.
