John Warwicker, born 1955, London. Resident in Melbourne for the past 9 years.
For the past 2 years John has been Professor of Design at Monash University and visiting professor at Zokei University in Tokyo.
Co-founded the multi-award winning, multi-disciplinary, creative studio tomato in London in 1991. tomato’s reputation is based on its trangression and transformation by blurring the boundaries of conventional practice. tomato has exhibited and performed widely throughout the world – the Sprengel Museum, Hannover; Die Neue Sammlung, Munich; LaForet, Tokyo; the Jacobson Howard Gallery, New York; the Makuhari Messe, Tokyo; the EACC, Valencia and the Design Museum, London, being notable examples. In addition to co-authoring six tomato books, John has authored four books, most notably The Floating World; Ukiyo-e, and has written over 100 articles in the world’s design and cultural press, and has lectured extensively.
