Peter Atkins, born 1963, in Murrurundi N.S.W. lives and works in Melbourne. In 1985 he graduated from The National Art School in Sydney and was awarded the Helen Lempriere Traveling Art Scholarship the same year. Exhibiting extensively both nationally and internationally since 1987. Significant exhibitions include sole Australian representative and gold medal recipient at the VIII Triennale in New Delhi, India, 1994, Systems End - Contemporary Art in Australia, Hakone Open - Air Museum, Tokyo, 1996/97 and Five Continents and One City, Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico, 1999. Recently, his work was included in the prestigious Clemenger Award in 2009/10 and Contemporary Encounters, both at the National Gallery of Victoria. Exhibiting with Tolarno Galleries in Melbourne since 1991, his recent solo exhibitions include Welcome to L.A. – Readymade Abstraction 2009, Hume Highway Project 2010 and Monopoly Project 2012.
