Working collaboratively since the 1980s across diverse forms and disciplines, Janet Burchill and Jennifer McCamley’s practice often engages with the legacies of modernism and traverses a wide range of references from psychoanalysis to film, and literature to feminism. The NGV’s collection of shields from Papua New Guinea provided initial inspiration for their project, which comprises a large ‘sculptural collage’ featuring shields made by the artists between 2004 and 2013.
