Since the 1980s, Jon Campbell has explored vernacular language and popular culture through paintings and installations which adopt the graphic conventions of commercial art and design to explore Australian identityand humour. Comprising eighty-five tea towels – some in their original condition, others modified by Campbell through the addition of a ‘choice snippet’ or image – Campbell’s DUNNO (T. towels) is a mock heroic frieze of kitsch ‘kitchenalia’ that celebrates the values and dramas of suburban Australia.
