An artist working across sculpture, drawing, photography, installation and moving image, Nicholas Mangan’s video work A world undone focuses on the destruction of mineral resources. Shown alongside accompanying photographs and sculpture, the video depicts a portion of red rock containing zircon crystals from the Jack Hills of Western Australian being smashed and obliterated, turning what is believed to be the oldest mineral on earth to dust. These specs that encompass an immense history are captured in slow motion and high resolution against a black background. Achingly beautiful, they also seem to constitute their own galaxy.
