Born 1979, Geelong, Victoria; lives and works in Melbourne. Nicholas Mangan completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2001, and in 2007 was awarded the Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship, which enabled him to undertake postgraduate studies at Universität der Künste, Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include Some Kinds of Duration, Artspace, Sydney, 2011, and Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2012, and Progress in Action, Sutton Gallery, Melbourne, 2013. Major recent group exhibitions include Lucky Number Seven: 7th International Biennial, SITE Santa Fe, United States, 2008; Before & After Science: 2010 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Art Gallery of South Australia; the 13th Istanbul Biennial, Turkey, 2013; and the 9th Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 2013. Mangan has undertaken numerous residencies, including the Australia Council for the Arts’ Green Street residency, New York, in 2006, and Récollets, Paris, in 2011.
