Robert Owen ’s grid paintings, geometric sculptures and installations employ formalist abstraction to convey metaphysical concerns. Commissioned for Level 3 of NGV International, Lacuna is an expansive monochromatic wall painting in an intense ultramarine blue, full of transcendent potential, which was inspired by Giotto’s use of the colour in the Scrovegni Chapel, Padua.
