Starlie Geikie mines a rich archive of historical and material references in a practice that hovers somewhere between drawing, painting, textile design, installation and craft. While making her artworks, Geikie often imagines them in certain historical or cultural settings – her work for Melbourne Now builds an atmosphere redolent of the 1970s, whilst also referencing modernist and feminist design traditions.
