Maryann Talia Pau

Samoan-Australian artist Maryann Talia Pau uses the language of weaving to create symbols, forms and dynamic spaces that engage with contemporary Pasifika society and culture. Her innovative woven forms are created as part of her desire to become a Matuauu or ‘Super Weaver’. Talia Pau’s shell, feather and fibre breastplates and headpieces, which have an antecedent in a breastplate acquired by the NGV in 2010. These fantastical body adornments were designed specifically for developing her weaving skills in collaboration with other contemporary artists in Australia.
