Over the past fifty years, Jan Senbergs has explored built and natural environments, more recently creating what he calls ‘picture maps’ – visual documentation of the artificial and natural elements that constitute cities. For Melbourne Now, Senbergs has lined a room with reproductions of historical maps, contemporary Indigenous paintings and his own work. Children – and their parents – are invited to contribute a picture map depicting their version of a real or imagined world, creating a rich pictorial vision of Melbourne.
