Since the 1960s, Stelarc’s performance art has considered the obsolescence of the human body and looked to alternative anatomical architectures. From 2006-13 Stelarc was Chair in Performance Art, School of Art, Brunel University, London, and in 2010 he was awarded the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica Hybrid Art Prize. In 2006, Stelarc began ‘growing’ a surgically constructed and Internet-enabled ear on his arm using stem cell technology. A photograph and cast of Stelarc’s Ear on arm are included in Melbourne Now.
