Born 1962, Melbourne, Victoria; lives and works in Melbourne. Elizabeth Newman studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in the 1980s. Her work has been exhibited throughout Australia and overseas since 1985. Recent solo exhibitions include The Unprecedented Dark Light of the New Letters, CAST, Hobart, 2009; Lights On, Neon Parc, Melbourne, 2010; I Want You to Know. What I Am, with Maria Cruz, MO_Space, Manila, 2010; and Spazio A, with Esther Klaes, Pistoia, Italy, 2011. Group exhibitions include Paint(h)ing, Australian Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide, 2010, and Artists’ Proof #1, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne, 2012. The artist’s monograph More than What There Is was published in 2013.
