Born 1979, Melbourne, Victoria; lives and works in Melbourne. Helen Johnson undertook a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at RMIT University in 2002 and is currently a PhD candidate at Monash University. Since graduating from RMIT, Johnson has participated in residencies in Germany and Norway as well as a studio residency at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne, 2004. Recent exhibitions include On the Make, Utopian Slumps, Melbourne, 2009; An Effort of Memory, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2010; Brutalist Reintegration Project, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne, 2011; Dead Metaphor, ACME Project Space, London, 2012; Meantime, Sutton Gallery, Melbourne, 2013; and Air to Surface: Parker Ito and Helen Johnson, Prism, Los Angeles, 2013. In 2012, Johnson exhibited in Negotiating This World: Contemporary Australian Art at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
